Every investment you make in your business is a big commitment.

Naturally you want to make sure at the end of the day that you not only made the right decision, but that it also pays off. Sometimes investments provide an immediate return, like a CRM that helps you automate your process, send and receive contracts and (heck yes) – even get paid! Or a website that allows you to blog, connect with your people, receive inquiries and share what you do. Other investments might not feel as immediately obvious with the ROI, like brand photos. They feel like the right thing to do, but do you REALLY need them?

As a photographer turned website designer, I’m team professional brand photos, 100%.

Why? Because in today’s world, visual content plays a significant role in building a brand’s identity and engaging with customers.

Brand photos are a crucial building block of  your visual identity, because they show off who you are and what you do. And they do so in a way that makes your audience stop their scroll and actually pay attention. They speak to your brand’s personality and values. They allow you to build connections, and do so in a way that is professional and consistent.

But taking great brand photos is only half the battle; making the most of them is equally important. Unlike family portraits, your brand photos will typically exist in a digital space. But the last place you want to leave them is hanging out on a hard drive without putting them into use. So here’s 10 ways you can make the most of your professional brand photos.

  • Use Them On Your Website

    • Your website is the primary real estate of your brand and naturally the first place I recommend updating your photos! Use them on your homepage, about page, and any other relevant pages to showcase your brand’s personality and values. Use your brand photos to create a visually appealing website. This will help create a cohesive brand identity, build brand trust, and share more about who you are!
  • Use Them Across All Platforms

    • Your brand photos should be used across all of your marketing platforms. From your website, to social media, emails, and advertising campaigns. Consistency in your visual brand is essential to building and maintaining a strong brand identity. Try to update every platform with the same image (or at least from the same shoot), so that it immediately triggers recognition and brand trust.
  • Share Them On Social Media

    • Social media is a great way to reach a wider audience and engage with customers. However, it’s also an easy way to get lost in the shuffle of comparison and distraction. Social media posts are short lived, so anytime you have the opportunity to create connections, you need to make the most of it. Be sure to update your social profile image with a consistent photo (see #1!). And use your brand photos throughout the actual feed to create visually appealing posts, full or brand personality that showcase who you are and what you do.
  • Use Them To Tell A Story

    • Your brand photos should tell a story that aligns with your brand’s values and mission and differentiates you from the competition. Use images that include brand relevant props, locations, and style. Find a photographer that helps you to evoke emotion and create a connection with your audience.
  • Use Them For Workshops and Events

    • Hosting a workshop or conference? Be sure to incorporate your brand photos and bring a face to the event. This will help to build anticipation and create brand recognition. Your attendees can’t wait to meet the face behind the brand in person! In turn you’ll help increase ticket sales and audience engagement.
  • Put Them On Your Lead Magnets

    • Your brand photos should be included with every lead magnet you send out. This is your chance to provide value and serve your audience, directly in their inbox. Beyond that, you also want to make sure you stay top of mind every single time someone revisits that education you sent their way.
  • Use Them In Email Marketing Campaigns

    • It goes without saying that email marketing is a top way to communicate with customers and promote your brand. But when an email hits your audience’s inbox, we still need to make that connection of who you are and what you do. Incorporating your brand photos into your email signature or even sales campaigns is a great way to continue that visual consistency.
  • Use Them In Blog Posts

    • Content is king! Sharing blog posts helps build your website SEO, position yourself as an expert in your industry, and serve your audience for free. Use your brand photos throughout all of your posts to make them consistent, visually appealing and increase engagement.
  • Update Your Pricing Guides

    • Proof that your brand photos belong literally everywhere. Your pricing guide is a perfect place to create a final, beautiful touchpoint with your prospective clients. Include a small “About” section with an updated headshot, share photos of you in action, and definitely include any BTS, or product photos you might have so that your audience can see the VALUE that they’re investing in beyond just a number.
  • Use Them In Video Content/Reels

    • Video content is becoming increasingly popular, and it’s a great way to engage with customers and showcase your products or services. Better yet, with reels and tiktok, today’s content can now easily include both photo and video. Be sure to hire a brand photographer that includes small amounts of b-roll footage, a current trend on instagram! But don’t overlook the use of throwing your brand photos into the mix and sync them with music.

Going through the process of scheduling, organizing and planning a brand shoot is equal parts fun and hard work! As a business owner, you want to make sure you follow through on the investment of time and money and put your photos to good use. Brand photos are a powerful tool to build brand identity, create engagement, and drive sales. By making the most of your brand photos, you can create a consistent visual identity that resonates with your audience and supports your brand’s growth.

While it seems easy, practicing creativity is something that may actually require a bit of effort and discipline.

Hey, I'm Jen

I'm so happy you're here - let's collaborate on something good.

My husband calls me Jennifer, but everyone else calls me Jen.
I started my first online business and blog way back in 2015, when I just knew I wanted to do life differently. I've always had a notebook full of scribbles and really big dreams. While my business has shifted a bit along the way, my love of this online industry has stayed the same.

And I have the skillset of being able to build a strategic website to thank for that. I truly believe that with anything is possible with a domain name, and a little web design magic.
